Grand Cayman Island Mission – June 2010

June 14, 2010

Part 1          Part 2          Part 3

6-10-10 Thursday, Grand Cayman

Yesterday, the 9th, was my first day on the island, and the first day of the meeting. I arrived with some church family at around 11 a.m., greeted by Brother Dale Forbes (Pastor – Grand Cayman [Savannah Congregation]) and 2 of his 5 children. After we settled in to our lodging place (a beautiful dorm in Georgetown), Brother Dale kindly took us out to eat and paid for our meal! We came back and had choir practice at around 5:30, and had to leave for service at about 6:20. Thanks to the expert driving of Brother Tommy Bodden (Cayman Islands), we made it to the outdoor meeting before it actually commenced.

The goal of this mission was to have 3 nights of outdoor outreach to the young people of the Cayman Islands in Savannah, Grand Cayman Island.

The service started in fiery fashion! But soon thereafter, portending clouds and drops of rain caused the service to be moved inside. I have seldom seen a transition so seamless. The saints did not lose their focus. This was a great reason for the results that would follow that night…

The young people joined to sing, “I’m So Glad I Started Young,” “Jesus Is the Answer,” and “Redeemed.” Brother Lee Hampton (Minister – Jackson, Michigan) then unleashed a fiery sermon entitled, “The Danger of Waiting Too Late.” The Spirit moved and souls filled the small altar space. The saints were prompted to stand behind them and lift a burden of prayer for the children and the community.

I must interject here that I felt ill during the message, and went to the bathroom during altar call (now you know I was sick if I did that…). There I prayed and God touched me, and I went back out 100% instantly… resist the devil and he will flee from you! (James 4:7)

My wallet had dropped in the transition from the outdoors to the chapel, and graciously someone returned it to me. I had no idea that it was missing, but God did. Thanks be to God! But listen to this: I had 5 bills and 3 receipts in the wallet. The wallet fabric was wet, and the receipts were soaked, but the money was completely dry. Don’t tell me there’s no God.

We had a miraculous joint-prayer meeting this morning (Thursday the 10th), discussing the importance of prayer, thanking God for His works, and begging God’s blessing on our efforts to come.

I took a nap in the afternoon, then prepared for the evening service. God blessed us with beautiful weather, and we were able to have the service in open air. This was a blessing, as children came from the neighborhood to discover the commotion, cars rode by slowly to hear and observe, and unassuming passer-byers were catapulted into consideration of The Gospel Call.

The congregation sang (among other songs), “There’s Power in the Blood,” “I’m Going on,” and “Satisfied in Jesus.” The young people sang, “What a Faithful God,” “Praise God, I Am Free,” and “There’s Been a Change in Me.” What a thrill to deliver the gospel in song! Sister Chelsea Fitzpatrick (Jackson, Michigan) shared her testimony between songs.

That night (Friday night) God unbridled His mouthpiece and the Holy Ghost moved. Brother Marc Burke (Minister – Columbus, Georgia) preached a message of pure fire. The message? “Insensible.” Souls once again filled the altar, desiring help. God truly strove with man. Clouds in the sky began to flicker with jagged lightning off in the distance, as if to remind us of judgment to come.

I was privileged to sing at altar call, and we pleaded with precious souls. The service ended. I boarded the bus to return to the dorm, but as we waited, I saw a young man who had gone to the altar. I hastened off of the bus and introduced myself. His name is Johnathan. He was 14. I told him that I got saved when I was 15, that he could do it, and to stay tender. He had just gone for prayer, not to get saved.

We sang joyous songs of praise on the bus on the way home!
